Sleep Tip #128

So our little friend Manders subscribes to the Reader’s Digest. After I finished teasing her and assuring her that she was not yet in her 80’s, she told me that there was a really good article on how to get a good night’s sleep. So I hesitantly asked to borrow The Reader’s Digest. Low and behold, they made a suggestion that I had not heard before and I was eager to try. This tip has been great for me so I wanted to share it here.

The tip is to turn your digital clock away from you as you sleep, so that you cannot see the time. Their reasoning has to do with that little bit of light signaling your brain that light=awake time, but my reasons are a bit different. I find that if I cannot see the time when I roll over in the middle of the night or when I go to the bathroom, my brain is not activated into keeping me awake as I begin thinking about all I have to do in t-minus 4 hours and 23 minutes, etc. I also seem to fall asleep more quickly.

So here is my new philosophy: Set an alarm, go to bed and don’t look at any clock until your alarm goes off. Keep your mind in sleep mode until it is time to wake up and don’t worry about the time at all.

Try it. You will be surprised, I was. Go Reader’s Digest.
