Today I passed off a task that I normally do to one of our vendors. It’s a task I hate, but has so many nuances that I thought I would always have to do it myself. Luckily, we work with some pretty awesome people. So since this vendor happened to be in the office today and was done with her work rather quickly, I decided to let her try this task.

I went through the steps and told her to freely ask questions as she worked. She caught on quickly and asked several questions along the way. I checked through her work at different stopping points and made some updates as we went, but all in all it saved me a ton of time.

I don’t know why I am always surprised at the relief I feel after delegating a task. Yet, I still tend to hold onto things longer than I should. This lesson is taking a while to sink in, but I think I am starting to get it.
