After a few weeks of wondering. I’m pretty sure I finally felt the baby move. I wouldn’t describe it as “flutters” like the books do, but more like someone flicking me with their finger gently, but, you know, from inside my belly. Just another little joy to give thanks for on Thanksgiving eve. I have nicknamed him, Baby Kick-Kick.
We did the ring test the night before and then ultrasound confirmed, it’s a boy! I couldn’t believe it! I thought it was a girl, but we are honestly so happy! I think I actually said to the tech, “Really? Are you sure?”This was a very pleasant surprise, mostly because a boy will allow a blood relative to carry on the family name. Also, we are rock solid on our boy’s name, Nathaniel Anthony. So bring out the blue!!
We may know the answer to this question in just few short days. It seems weird that we will finally know. Everyone has guesses. I have mine too, but truly I will be happy with either. I actually really like the fact that this was something we had no control over. I suppose once we know then we can start planning a little more and buying stuff. Sometimes I think about how big a change this is going to be and it freaks me out a little, but I think it will be good.
Today as I was leaving the parking structure, I did something that many people have done. I ran into one of the large cement posts with my car. Several people we know have had “run-ins” so to speak, with these overgrown posts. They seem to jump out from nowhere. Anyway, I backed up and caught my passenger side mirror on the postand the mirror (the glass part) popped off. I hopped out of the car and picked it up, then had to continue on to my meeting. Later when I had a moment to assess the situation, I found that even though it was cracked and so was the hosing, I could snap it back into place. Everything still works, yay! Sometimes it pays to have an older car that you really don’t care much about.
There’s a lot going on right now, with work, the holiday, the pregnancy and being sick for the last week. Sometimes I wish I could pause it all for a bit and just not have more pile up. As it is, I’ll be playing catch up for the next week. Breathe.
My mom makes a killer roast. My roasts are not always as good as hers. My new solution is to brown the roast in a frying pan, deglaze with an onion and then a cup or so of red wine. Then put it all in the crock pot, which is something of a cheat, but judging from last night’s dinner, I’m ok with cheating.
Being that it’s our busiest time of year at Kneadle, I feel bad that I have been out sick for what feels like forever. Since we cannot afford to have my germs take out the whole team, I have been laying very low.
But, I have to say thank you to our awesome team (Christopher, Virginia, Owen and Manda) for keeping things running smoothly. Don’t know what I’d do without you guys!
I watched a few movies the other day and I’m sorry to say they mostly sucked. So here’s a cautionary note so you do not waste your time.
Broken Flowers – An independent with Bill Murray, seemed like it could be good from the description. Basic story line is that Bill’s character gets a mysterious letter telling him that he has a son who is on his way to meet him, but it is not signed. So his friend tries to figure out which of Bill’s past girlfriends wrote the letter and sends him out to visit these women and gather clues. He comes back with nothing concrete, but sees a kid at the airport and later at a diner and thinks this must be his son. He chats with the kid, the kid thinks he’s crazy and runs off. Then a car rolls by with another kid looking out the window and…roll credits! WHAT?? Seriously? So we don’t find out who the mother is or who the kid is? LAME. Plus there’s a lot of “independent” cinematography, like long shots of the back of someone’s head.
She’s the One – A romantic comedy (I think) with Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, that can’t be too bad, right? Wrong. Basically it’s the story of 2 brothers, one is a complete ass and married to Jennifer Aniston. The other brother is a nice guy who Cameron Diaz cheats on while they were engaged. Nice brother gets married to some random chick he meets within 24 hours. Ass brother cheats on Jennifer Aniston with Cameron Diaz. Meanwhile, the boys’ mom leaves their dad for someone else. I’m not sure how the movie finally resolves because I had to turn it off. It was too lame to take up my retinal energy any longer.
Funny Girl – The best of the 3, but not my favorite as musicals go. The movie is a bit long, in fact it took me 3 sittings to watch it all. It also occurs to me that I haven’t seen a musical where a single character sings ALL of the songs. The story is interesting, but it seemed like it took forever to get it told. I was quite entertained by Barbra Streisand’s hairdos throughout the film, that was probably my favorite part and “Don’t Rain on My Parade”…great song.
Being home sick for almost a week now, I am noticing that my eating habits are much different when I am at home vs. when I am at work.
On typical work day, I will have breakfast, occasionally a mid-morning snack, lunch around noon, snack around 3pm and dinner whenever we get to it, maybe a late night snack after that.
On an at home day, I have breakfast, an early, small lunch around 11am, a snack around 1:30pm, dinner at 5 or 6pm, then not much of anything after that.
I can’t really tell what makes a difference, except that when I am home on my own, I just eat when I am hungry.
Turns out those sniffles and sneezes were the beginnings of a cold I now have. Being sick while pregnant is a not the best experience since I can’t take extra vitamins like I typically would, nor can I take good meds.
Instead I am trying to get as much rest as possible, drinking lots of fluid and living off the chicken soup I made a few weeks back and froze (good thinking, Me). Chamomile tea and lotion tissues are my copilot.
